By following these steps, you can safely and securely set up an App Password for Gmail to use with your preferred third-party apps or devices.

 

1. 1. Sign in to your Google Account:

       

      • • Go to https://myaccount.google.com/ and sign in with your Google credentials if you are not already signed in.

1. 1. Navigate to Security Settings:

       

      • • Click on “Security” in the left-hand menu. If Two-Step Verification is not enabled, you will be prompted to set it up first. Follow the on-screen instructions to enable it.

1. 1. Generate the App Password:

       

      • • After enabling Two-Step Verification, scroll down to the “Signing in to Google” section.
      • • Look for “App passwords” and click on “App passwords” or go to https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords (you may need to verify your identity again).

1. 1. Select App and Device:

       

      • • Under “Select app,” choose the app or device you want to generate the App Password for. If your app is not listed, select “Other (Custom name)” and enter the name of your app.
      • • Under “Select device,” choose the device you are using the app on.

1. 1. Generate the App Password:

       

      • • Click on “Generate” to create the App Password.

1. 1. Use the App Password:

       

      • • Google will display a 16-digit App Password. Enter this password in the password field of the app where you want to access your Gmail account.

1. 1. Save the App Password:

       

      • • Ensure you save this password securely. You will not be able to view it again after you close the window. If you lose it, you’ll need to revoke it and generate a new one.

1. 1. Complete the Setup:

       

      • • Once you’ve entered the App Password into your app or device, it should authenticate and allow you to access your Gmail account.

Notes:

Security: App passwords are one-time passwords that are specific to the app and device for which they are generated. They provide a more secure way to connect apps to your Google Account without needing to expose your main password. It’s recommended to create separate app passwords for different applications for better security.

Revoking App Passwords: If you no longer use an app or device with an App Password, you can revoke it from your Google Account settings.
