Table of Contents
Prerequisites
- You must be using Windows 10 or 11 with Windows Hello enabled (for fingerprint, face recognition, or PIN).
- Your browser must support passkeys (latest versions of Chrome, Edge, or Firefox recommended).
- A supported email provider account (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho, etc.)
Step-by-Step: Enable Passkeys on Windows
1. Set Up Windows Hello
If you haven’t already:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options
- Under Windows Hello, set up:
- Fingerprint (if you have a fingerprint reader)
- Face recognition (if supported)
- Or PIN (minimum requirement)
- Fingerprint (if you have a fingerprint reader)
2. Enable Passkeys in Your Email Provider
Below are the setup links and steps for each platform:
For Google Workspace (Gmail)
- Visit: https://myaccount.google.com/security
- Scroll to “How you sign in to Google”
- Click on “Passkeys” > Create a Passkey
- Follow on-screen steps to confirm Windows Hello (fingerprint/face/PIN)
You can now sign in to Gmail using just your Windows Hello login.
For Microsoft 365 (Outlook)
- Go to: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- Sign in with your Microsoft 365 work account
- Click “Add sign-in method” > Choose Passkey
- Follow prompts to register your passkey using Windows Hello
Outlook and Microsoft Teams will now allow passkey-based sign-ins where supported.
For Zoho Mail
- Sign in to your Zoho Mail account
- Go to: Settings > Account Settings > Passkey
- Click “Set Passkey” and follow on-screen instructions
- Authenticate using Windows Hello when prompted
Zoho will save your device as a passkey authenticator.
How It Works After Setup
- Next time you sign in, instead of typing a password:
- You’ll be prompted to authenticate with your fingerprint, face, or PIN via Windows Hello.
- You’ll be prompted to authenticate with your fingerprint, face, or PIN via Windows Hello.
- This works even if you’ve logged out or switched devices (as long as your passkey is synced or backed up via Windows Hello and browser settings).
Pro Tip: Enable Sync or Backup
- If using Google Chrome or Edge, make sure browser sync is turned on to store and use passkeys across devices.
- You can also back up passkeys to your Microsoft account under device security settings.
